Unique series of random numbers

August 6, 2006, 3:44 pm
Here's a nifty function that comes handy every now and then. It generates X number of random numbers, ranging from A to B, but with no duplicates. PHP's rand() produces more duplicates than anything :)

CODE:

   // php
   // $num = number of 'numbers' to generate
   // $start = start of range
   // $end = end of range
   function get_rand($num, $start, $end) {
      $rand = array();
      $rand_temp = array();

      while(count($rand) < $num) {
         $temp = rand($start, $end);
         if(!isset($rand_temp[$temp])) {
            $rand_temp[$temp] = true;
            $rand[] = $temp;
         }
      }
      return $rand;
   }

MySpace

July 29, 2006, 9:58 pm
Its all about Myspace these days. Myspace here, Myspace there, everywhere. Today's mashable.com was all about myspace. Digg's full of myspace, NY Times has occasional myspace news. Myspace getting banned in schools, Myspace leading to crime, Myspace and children.

Technically, myspace is a simple system. The userinterface is remote from being called 'cool'. Mashable said 'myspace layout' has become the 9th most popular search time. Whats wrong with 97,151,211* people, all they do is social networking or what?

I can't understand the trend. I am pretty sure atleast 50% of the myspace population lives on nothing but myspace itself (online). Feeble.

If I remember right, NewsCorp spent around 400+ million dollars, and they are the ones benifiting in reality.

So long..

Commentful

July 4, 2006, 9:09 pm
All bloggers, readers, here comes Commentful ! No RSS, no subscription, no hassles, just blinks!

Commentful

Commentful is infact a service that keeps tracks of blog comments/follow-ups and notifies you of updates almost instantly. Commentful supports WP blogs, bM blogs, Flickr comments etc.. etc.. You just name it and Commentful tracks it! The Blinking is no joke but a nifty little Firefox extension that blinks when ever there is an update to your watchlist.

And remember, Commentful is highly experimental, so I cannot guarantee 100% compatibility with all sources, but hey, Commentful's trying atleast!

Me

June 10, 2006, 2:35 pm
Its Web 2.0, Tags, Folksonomies, Ajax, thats what everyone's talking about! Web 2.0 sites are eye candie, I am always amazed by their slick and crispy appearance. But what all of these Web 2.0 services do I use? hm

> Flickr - occassionaly upload photos
> Digg - news
> thats all !

I can't think of anything else that I regularly use. I don't do any social bookmarking, I don't use any mashed up maps, I don't use tagging (except on flickr), I don't have a 'homepage' like netvibes (I'm a big fan of about:blank), I don't use any feedreaders and I am rarely subscribed to any feeds and I don't smoke and I don't drink, :)

My own business card!

June 7, 2006, 2:35 pm
I've always loved business cards, I guess everyone does. Good looking business cards, for some strange reason, always gives me a sense of pride! Aspiration, maybe. Today a set of few hundred of my first ever business cards arrived. So cool, I am no more a kid, I've got my own business cards!

my business card

The card might look empty/plain, but I custom designed it. Plain white matt card with grey text. Simplicity rules!
