RED HAT !!! ?? :-*

You like Redhat? I used to, but now I HATE IT :( I lost 14 hours of my precious time trying to install RH 9. Messed with my system, installed a new hard disk, loaded RH's anaconda installer, installation began and when the installation reached 90%, the damn installer produced a 'critical' error. what was it?? I remember, "I/O error blah blah blah..". I thought the installation discs might have got corrupted. But soon I found that they worked perfect on all other systems. Then I thought my hd might have developed a bad sector or something, so did a surface scan, but no problems. Then began the 10 hour battle with Linux Red Hat installation :( I must have tried not less than a 50 times till I finally gave up. Yes, I GIVE UP :( I hate you RH (atleast for now). Ok, I got the FC3 DVD now. Am gonna try to install it. Hopefully, it'll make me happy. Lets wait and see..

Grrr....

While it's not as simple as Red Hat or Mandrake, I'd suggest using Debian. It takes a bit of getting used to, but it runs very cleanly in my opinion. It allows you to install only what you what and nothing you don't.

I'll warn you, though. It will take a bit of work to get it up and running to your specifications, but it will be worth it. All you need to know is:

apt-cache search SOME_PACKAGE

and

apt-get install SOME_PACKAGE

Debian does the rest.

:( RedHat, Fedora, SUSE, Mandrake. I tried installing all these. But nothing works. I now strongly doubt whether its the problem with my HD. I'll have to find a way..

Btw, never tried Debian. Let me get a copy..
